One Good Reason...

UPDATE 10/9/2007:  Grand openin' - grand closin' - Alas mateys, the Pirate Ship be a closed. RIP.

The goodly folks at EDAWN have asked us to submit our "OneGoodReason" for why we like "greater reno (dash) tahoe" and I think I found a new one. What other town has a restaurant that is the shape of a dry-docked pirate ship? That's right...nobody.

My one good reason is The Pirate Ship restaurant on Greenbrae Drive in good ol' Sparks. I remember this from my childhood roots - where I would cruise my Huffy over to the "sev" (aka 7-11) to mix up a suicide Big Gulp (way back when Big Gulps came in a measly 32oz size), and ponder what I could pull a wheelie over. The pirate ship used to be known as the China Clipper and while it was closed for many years before being reborn as The Pirate Ship, it never met the demise of the wrecking ball like the ill-fated Mapes, or Harolds Club did in downtown reno. Oh no...Sparks protects its landmarks...and thank goodness.

The food here is decent...i give it a B-, the service a C, but the atmosphere is an A+. I am certain as the guys work out the kinks over the coming monhths things will be good all around.

Give it a visit...enjoy a hearty cask of your favorite Mead...maybe after you get a good dose of pirate from the latest Depp flick this weekend.

If you don't agree with me that this place is great, well then you are obviously wrong.

Plunder on...

A return to service...

I recently came across an article my Good Experience friend Mark Hurst commented on that i find fascinating and a great trend.  The article refers to "the hotel as a lifestyle", a topic I personally feel very close to.  Major hotel chains, not just the boutiques, are clamoring to develop new properties that deliver something beyond the status quo, hiring the top designers, localizing the hotel and its features, while replicating the concept worldwide. Hotels aside, I truly believe that every industry can be re-energized with attention to detail, and the user experience.  Do you agree?  Here is the NY Times article:

This article also defends my prior post on THEhotel and Joie de Vivre.  Their direction is spot on.  Can you redefine your industry in a similar fashion?

Success awaits...

Are you havin' a laugh?

Okay, I needed a good tear-filled, belly laugh today and I found it in the form of my ghost writing friend Maddox.  Here in the 'ol agency, we are forced to use a bunch of stock images in favor of shooting proper ones 'cause its "cheaper".  Well, Maddox has cataloged [beautifully I might add] the stock photo business model and client selection process SO VERY WELL in his recent blog post that I felt I had to share it with my 10's of readers...

You can read his post here

I must disclaim, that if you are uncomfortable with some 4 letter words and irreverence [some of my favorite things], you should probably not click that link.  The opinions of the author are his own - i just find them funny.

Desparately Seeking: Client who will let us run this campaign

I came across this ad for Metro Gym in the UK recently and I found it incredibly clever and funny.  I wonder [aloud] if we could find one of our clients with the sack to let us create a devilishly funny campaign like this.

Form an orderly queue please...

Enjoy.
