Can your inbox pass the auditorium test?
Today at FOOA the host Ryan Carson whipped up an impromptu presentation (because a speaker cancelled at the last minute) where he took the covers off of how FOOA was marketed, promoted, designed. Ryan humbly talked about what they did and didn't do right leading up to the show. I know that for me, the design elements they put together, the speakers, the format, the location (new york city & the beautiful Gotham Hall in midtown), helped me make my decision to attend. Everything is first class...like me :-)
anyway, getting to the point...during the presentation, Ryan popped up his live email inbox in front of everyone and he started to panic. you could feel his anxiety level rise...thinking to himself, "why the hell did I do this?". Meanwhile nothing bad happened, but I thought to myself, would my inbox, or anyone's Inbox stand up to public display? Its almost like standing there naked...everything you read, subscribe to, people you correspond with...you at the core level. I always say if the gov-ment wants to monitor my online traffic, emails, phone calls, go for it...i have nothing to hide. But, what about the general public? What opinion of someone would you have if you had immediate access to their inbox? You could probably learn just about everything about someone just from seeing what comes across their screen. What powerful information (gMail and Hotmail sound familiar here?).
Think your inbox would pass the auditorium test?
Anyway...ryan, no harm no foul. The
conference is great and I can't wait till the next one. More detailed show feedback to follow.
